Oh, I agree. One of the reasons I went with a Newton was because it seemed like the writer friendly PDA type thingy. (e.g., so I can write in odd locations during odd bits of stolen time.) Looking for an old eMate might have been a better idea.
There are a bunch of Japanese subnotebooks. Microsoft has been pushing UMPC. But none of those really do much for me. (Or, actually, maybe the right way of putting it is that they do too much for me. I don't want it to do everything, just a select set of useful things extremely well. Right now, one of them is handwriting recognition because at the form factor I want, keyboards are a bit small...)
