One of my goals this year is to catch up on my short fiction reading. (Last year, I made the possibly dubious choice of subscribing to all of the big 3 SF magazines, then promptly fell behind.) Anyways, I'm finally at the point where I'm reading issues that correspond to the actual calendar month. Of course, in magazine time, this isn't May. This is actually July. The July issues of Asimov's and Analog arrived weeks ago. F&SF, though, stayed resolutely in May.

So, I was kind of excited yesterday morning when I got to the May issue of F&SF. I was reading my last issue of F&SF. I've cleared the backlog, right? Wrong. Yesterday afternoon, the June issue showed up. This afternoon, the July issue showed up. *sigh*

I'm waiting to see if the August issue arrives tomorrow. If this pace keeps up, maybe I'll read the story I will, one day, publish in F&SF before I will have written it!

So funny. That would be an incredibly stress-free way to write.

How very F&SFnal.

I bought the big three from the newstand this week, but I'm still working on the double issue of Asimov's, having given up on pretty much everything earlier than that for the moment. Oh, and I've barely touched my first McSweeney's.

Any recommendations from those issues?

I'm in serious need of catching up with my short fiction reading. I'm ashamed to say that I haven't yet read the issue of Coyote Wild with my story in it. It is number one on my list though, which hopefully counts for something.

That's the sad thing. I've just started the May issues. (The class of the May issue of Analog is clearly the installment of Karl Schroeder's Queen of Candesce.) However, in magazine time, it's July. So I still have no idea what's actually in any issue that's still selling at a newsstand.

Also, the double issue of Asimov's intimidates me almost as much as the special Gene Wolfe issue of F&SF. That issue of F&SF was pretty good. (I haven't started the Asimov yet.) I wonder if everything Gene Wolfe writes is a reification of perfection, or if it just seems that way.

My current mini-goal is to get to the July issues before July.
(Having finally finished Accelerando, I ought to start another novel too.)

You could just read all the IROSF reviews of short fiction. That's what I do about keeping up with movies - I just read the reviews. Saves time.
